There are basically two types of treatment: laser and surgical.<br \/><br>Excimer laser therapy is indicated for mild to moderate refractive errors, up to approximately 8 diopters. Surgical treatment is indicated for severe refractive errors, usually over 8 diopters. This latter involves implanting an artificial lens made of biocompatible material (ICL) behind the iris, through a small incision of approximately 2.4 mm in the peripheral part of the cornea. This lens eliminates the refractive error, and visual recovery is very rapid.
