The most effective therapy currently available for treating certain retinal diseases, such as wet age-related macular degeneration and diabetic macular edema, is intravitreal injection of specific drugs called anti-VEGFs. These drugs shrink the abnormal vessels that produce the exudation underlying these diseases.
