Prof. Dott. Giuseppe Giuffrè
Professor Giuseppe Giuffrè graduated in Medicine and Surgery and specialized in Ophthalmology with honors from the University of Palermo. He holds a PhD in Neurosensory Pathophysiology. In 2010, he became Associate Professor in Ophthalmology at the University of Palermo.
Although he spent most of his professional life in Palermo, he worked also abroad, at the Institute of Neuroscience of the National Research Council (CNR) in Pisa and at the Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. He is the author of over 150 scientific papers, 80 of which are published in international ophthalmology journals.
He won the first edition of the most prestigious ophthalmology research award in Italy—the AIRCMO Award—for his pioneering work on the use of prostaglandins as ocular hypotensives. Prostaglandins, which he first used in the human eye, are now the gold standard in the treatment of glaucoma.
He is the CEO’s medical director. His clinical interests in ophthalmology primarily focus on retinal diseases and glaucoma. He has performed thousands of cataract surgeries and hundreds of refractive surgeries.
Dott.ssa Chiara Giuffrè
Dr. Chiara Giuffrè graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Palermo in 2014 with a grade of 110/110 cum laude. After graduation, she did her residency in Ophthalmology at San Raffaele University in Milan, where she sub-specialized in Uveitis and inflammatory eye disease.
Since 2019, she has been a Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology after passing the European Qualification Exam. In 2020-2021, she was a Senior Uveitis Fellow at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital in England for a year, where she deepened her knowledge in uveitis. She regularly presents papers at national and international conferences and has published numerous scientific articles in international ophthalmology journals.

Dott.ssa Giovanna Piscopo – Anesthetist
Dr. Giovanna Piscopo graduated in Medicine and Surgery in Palermo in 1982 and completed her specialization in Anesthesia and Intensive Care at the same university in 1985. She worked as a general practitioner from 1983 to 1988, managing a large number of patients with profound empathy. Since 1988, she has worked at the Civic Hospital as an Anesthesiologist and Intensive Care Physician, serving in all operating rooms, from major surgery such as cardiac surgery and neurosurgery, to minimally invasive surgery such as ophthalmology. During this time, she also worked in the emergency room as an Emergency Physician. Her passion for emergencies has led her to serve on the emergency medical service for many years (118). She has recently developed an interest in acupuncture, an ancient holistic medical art that treats the patient as a whole and does not focus solely on individual symptoms. She is currently enrolled in the Acupuncture School of the Palermo Medical Association.
Dott.ssa Gabriella Cammarata – Neurophthalmologist
Dr. Gabriella Cammarata graduated in Medicine and Surgery with honors from the University of Palermo (1999) and specialized in Ophthalmology with honors from the University of Milan (2003).
She was a volunteer specialist and subsequently a consultant specialist at the Neuro-ophthalmology and Ocular Electrophysiology Service at the San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan (2003-2012) and at the Neuro-ophthalmology Service, Private Nursing Home of the Policlinico Department of Neurorehabilitation Sciences in Milan (2008-2020).
Since 2012, she has been a consultant specialist at the Neuro-ophthalmology and Ocular Electrophysiology Service, Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Auxologico Italiano in Milan, and since 2004 at the Neuro-ophthalmology Service, C. Besta Neurological Institute in Milan.
Dott.ssa Yulia Sivas – Oculoplastic surgeon
Dr. Yulia Sivas graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1998 from Pavlov Medical University (St. Petersburg) with specialization (2001) and Doctorate (2005) in Ophthalmology. From 2005 to 2009 she worked as an ophthalmologist at the University of Palermo. In 2009 she also graduated in Medicine and Surgery with 110 cum laude at the University of Palermo, where she also specialized in Ophthalmology in 2014. From 2013 to 2017 she worked as an ophthalmologist at San Raffaele Hospital in Milan in the Oculoplastic department. She also worked at the Polyclinic of Monza and at the San Gaudenzio Clinic in Novara. Since 2016, he has been practicing privately in Palermo, focusing primarily on diseases of the eyelids, ocular surface, and lacrimal ducts. He has over 20 years of surgical experience in this field. He has participated in numerous conferences and training courses and published scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals.
