Intravitreal corticosteroid drugs are an alternative to anti-VEGF drugs or can be used when these are no longer effective. Diabetic macular edema and edema secondary to retinal vein occlusion are the two most common diseases treated with these drugs. Intravitreal treatments are performed in the operating room after topical anesthesia (eye drops).
